It is funny how many people don't realize how easy SEO is. This guide will help any small business see some results but of course there are a few other factors that can drastically help your SEO efforts. One such method is optimizing your page speed. Google especially puts high emphasis on Page speed.

Thanks for the great article!

I'm involved in SEO for some highly-trafficked, high-ranking sites and I can say that, unless your search terms are EXTREMELY competitive (I've achieved excellent rankings for several competitive keyword phrases), it only takes 20 minutes/day. I should also add that sometimes I do the work on a Monday and a Friday for 1 hr and 1.3 hrs respectively - but roughly speaking it still means about 20 min/day.

Usually you need more than 20 minutes to go through your checklist, don't you? To keep your content fresh (step 6) you need to think what your (potential) customers want to read about and how to use SEO to make it crawler friendly. Usually I spend a lot more time only for this point...

I thought I was replying to the administrator only, not posting all openly; but, in any case, re. the comment on here - Despite widespread adoption, social media seems to have remained a key tool for movie stars and one-hit-youtube-wonders, but has had little effect on the promotion of Real Estate. That comment makes me wonder if the person writing this information has any idea of the widespread use of Facebook by many younger who have thousands of people on their sites and who can and do easily notify those thousands of all kinds of things. That comment epitomizes the level of awareness of many Realtors, also. On many individuals' birthdays, for example, avid Facebook users can receive hundreds of wishes from high school, university, and other friends and family with hundreds of others sometimes taking note. Many older simply aren't as integrally involved in the use of the site, don't have the same kinds of connections - ie people who are Facebook users on a regular basis, nor do they know the implications of connecting so many people or how to manage privacy settings. Neither comment needs to appear openly - just wanted to comment.

I don't understand why Realtors want to have all their clients linked together, sometimes mixed in with friends and family - so much for privacy or Privacy Act issues. If Realtors don't know how to manage their site, others may access the information and see who has bought property from a particular Realtor - perhaps a former client of one. I don't know . . . it seems a can of worms without thought put into some of the issues that may arise; also, some people who agree to be a friend may not realize the ins and outs of Facebook.

Partnerships are tricky.. You should have different strengths, and you need to have trust, the same work ethic, and you each need to have your own areas that you are responsible for.

I started an aggressive SEO campaign with an American SEO company last November. The process was relatively involved to begin with, but once we'd established the parameters of the campaign, they ran with it with minimal further input from me. The quality of their copy is crap (needs involved monthly reviews from me), but they've otherwise done a good job, and I've gone from invisible on Google to the top of page 2. I expect to hit page 1 for some of my targeted terms mid-year, at the current rate of increase.

I'm paying $2k-$3k/month - that's about the going rate I discovered when researching around for SEO companies. Sounds expensive? Sure, but it's already paying for itself with monthly increase in web-based transactions, and I expect that number to increase 15x once I hit page 1. I fully expect the market to become more competitive, and prices to rise, but the ROI is so astronomical at the moment ($40k/year for $200k+ net return), that it's hard to ignore.

I tell many colleagues exactly this knowing full well that only 5% will take heed and try it for themselves. It will be these 5% that will own the market for years to come, and I'll be among them. Best of all - no more vandalized bus benches and envelope stuffing!
